It seems to me that many of our ‘betters’ and certainly those that should have known better have let us down during, or more importantly at the beginning of the pandemic. Boris and Donald to name but two. Money aka “The Economy” talks and the voices of the elderly and infirm, susceptible and at highest risk were ignored. An unacceptable number of aged friends and family have died, possibly needlessly. However this blog isn’t about forgiving and making peace with everyone, but moving on from where we are to where we want to be. History (and hopefully inquiries into Presidents and Prime Ministers around the world) will be the judge for those concerned as well as public opinion and the ballot box!
Make Love not war, Make Peace and move on. Forgive and Let Go
Well, if you do “Make peace with your past so it won’t destroy your present.” – Paulo Coelho
I don’t know about you but this seems as good a reason as any, don’t you agree?
“Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls your life…….” – Akshay Dubey
For me this doesn’t mean hunting down your foe, buying them a drink, holding them by the hand and looking them directly in the eyes and saying “I forgive you” but adding a bit more and maybe just delivering the message to the most important person in the room – ME!
“I forgive you. But just because I forgive you doesn’t mean I want to continue to be your friend. It doesn’t even mean I respect you as a man because you are not. You are a miserably scared little boy who can’t tell when to let go and when to hold on. You will never be worth my time nor my friendship.” – Rebecca David
To me I don’t even care if they don’t know – it’s about ME after all! (I might even take some pleasure in moving on in the knowledge that they might still feel some discomfort! – BUT that’s NOT the ‘spiritual’ way!!) Some care more about what other people think of them than how they feel about themselves so my message to them is …
Let it go
The cold never bothered me anyway
Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
Kristen Anderson-Lopez / Robert Lopez
Wayne Dyer says forgiving others is essential for spiritual growth. Your experience of someone who has hurt you, while painful, is now nothing more that, a thought or feeling that you carry around. These thoughts of resentment, anger, and hatred represent slow, debilitating energies that will dis-empower you if you continue to let these thoughts occupy space in your head. If you could release them, you would know more peace. So in only 15 steps you too can learn to forgive!
I have to admit that although I ‘get’ the message, I really do! I can’t help it is far simpler than what is often prescribed, that is it’s an act of doing rather than contemplating. However how much ENERGY are we going to give this??
“Don’t try fixing something that is already broken in the first place.”- John Robert Go
A walking away from rather than a exercise of self contemplation, mindfulness and introspection – all good things in their place but hey the idea here is that we LEAVE these things and people in the past and move onwards. Easier said than done but here are a few quotes I’ve come across that express things in a way that you relate to, from far greater minds than mine and with a way with words I could only dream of having, starting with that great philosopher…Winnie the Pooh.
“I always get to where I am going by walking away from where I have been.”

“No matter how much you stress or obsess about the past or future, you can’t change either one. In the present is where your power lies.”– Mandy Hale, The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass
